An example of a DSL modem.

DSL stands for digital subscriber line. DSL uses a modem to convert a phone line into high speed Internet. The modem can be just a modem, where only a single computer can connect without a separate router, or it can be a modem/router combo, which allows multiple users to connect. As a DSL service provider, AT&T offers a modem/router combo made by 2Wire. The modem/router also is a wireless router, so users can connect to the Internet wirelessly as well.
