How to Hook Up a Samsung DVD Recorder & VCR to Cable thumbnail
Use composite cables to hook up a Samsung DVD recorder and VCR to cable.

A Samsung DVD Recorder and VCR combines two pieces of equipment into one component. Connecting the Samsung between a TV and cable TV box makes it possible to record programming either to a blank, recordable DVD or to a VHS video cassette. The connections require two sets of composite cables, which are color coded for simplified hook ups.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert the red, white and yellow plugs on one end of a composite cable into the color-matching output jacks on the back of the cable box. Push each plug straight in the jack.

    • 2

Connect the plugs on the other end to the AV input jacks on the back of the Samsung. This cable sends the audio-video signals from the cable TV box to the Samsung for recording either to DVD or VHS cassette.

    • 3

Connect a second set of composite cables from the AV output jacks on the back of the Samsung to a set of AV input jacks on the TV. Most TV sets are equipped with at least three sets of AV jacks, so make a note of which one is used for the connection.

    • 4

Turn on the cable box, Samsung component and TV, and then press the TV remote control "Input' button repeatedly until the signal from the cable box appears on screen.

Tips & Warnings

  • Disconnect the Samsung, TV and cable box from the elecvtricity while hooking up the AV cables.
