Sand blasting is a highly effective method of cleaning solid indoor and outdoor surfaces. The process involves the use of compressed air to forcibly project granules at a target to remove dirt, residue and paint. A sand blaster is capable of restoring virtually any surface to its original, bare condition. - Sand blaster
- Crushed or ground walnut shells

Put on protective eyewear and a hooded painter's suit. Wear a respirator before sand blasting to avoid inhaling dust particles.

Shut off the air valves on the blaster and fill the tank with masonry sand. Start the compressor and leave it to pressurize between 40 and 100 psi (pounds per square inch).

Clear the workspace of anything that could be hit by stray sand. Cover any exposed indoor surfaces surrounding the target with plastic sheeting or tarp if you want to keep them clean; otherwise, an outdoor setting is ideal.

Set the sandblasting unit to a low-pressure setting and stand 8 to 16 inches from your target. Point the nozzle at the surface and squeeze the trigger to dispense the masonry sand, blasting the area top to bottom for even coverage.

Gradually increase the pressure setting if necessary until you reach the desired results. Use sweeping motions for large segments of the target, and short bursts of sand for trouble areas and small details.
