How to Fix a Really Scratched Game CD

Fix heavily scratched game CDs.

Although older video game systems typically used cartridges to store the game software, newer generations of consoles are using CDs to store the larger amounts of information. These CDs are prone to scratching if left unprotected. If you want to restore a game CD that is heavily scratched, you can do so with some basic materials.

Things You'll Need

• Liquid dish detergent
• Toothpaste (nongel)

Instructions

1. Run warm tap water and place the CD underneath. Gently scrub the surface of the CD with a mild dish detergent and rinse thoroughly. Allow the game CD to air-dry thoroughly.

2. Rub a nongel toothpaste onto the surface of the game CD for five minutes, working from the center outward. Do not rub in a circular manner.

3. Thoroughly rinse off the toothpaste under warm tap water with a small amount of dish detergent and let the game CD air-dry completely.
