1
Gather pictures and photos. Go through magazines, jewelry catalogs and visit jewelry stores to look for wedding rings you like. Look for the design features and elements of the ring that you like rather than what kind of stone it contains, since you already know that you want to use a ruby stone in your wedding band.
-
2
Pull features you like. Mark the design features of each ring that you like and create a sketch or make notes of each element that you want to make your ruby wedding band.
-
-
3
Choose the shape of the ruby stone. Decide which shape you want to use for the ruby that you will be using as part of the wedding band design.
-
4
Pick the metal from which you want your ring to be made: platinum, white gold, yellow gold, etc.
-
5
Draw a sketch of the ring you like with any outstanding features noted. If you prefer not to sketch, you can use photos.
-
6
Take your design to the jeweler. Take the sketch you've drawn or the photos you've gathered with you to speak with the jeweler. Point out each design element of the ring including that you would like to use a ruby stone where the design for the stone is. Discuss the jeweler's ability to make the ring you've designed.
-
7
Approve the design proof. If you brought the jeweler pictures of the design features rather the ruby wedding band sketch, the jeweler will create a sketch for you to proof before he begins the design. Review the proof carefully and make any modifications to the proof until the jeweler presents you with the final proof that you approve.
-
8
Choose the ruby stone. Have the jeweler show you a tray of rubies that you can choose from to make your ring. Pick the stone you want to use when the jeweler creates your ring.
-
9
Finalize the ring design. Do a final review of the ring design sketch and elements with the jeweler before he starts to make the ring.
