Java is a programming language and computing platform developed by Sun Microsystems, a subsidiary of Oracle Corporation. Java is deployed in personal computers; corporate servers; mobile devices, including cell phones; and other devices, including TV devices like TiVo. The Java Platform, Micro Edition, or Java ME, is specifically designed for embedded systems, including mobile devices like mobile phones. Many mobile phones today run a gamut of Java applications.

Nokia

Nokia's smartphones are built on Symbian, an embedded operating system built by Nokia, which is compatible with Java ME. Nokia's mobile phones are built on the Series 40 mobile device platform, also compatible with Java ME. Some of these mobile phones include Nokia C2-01, Nokia C1-02, Nokia X2-01 and Nokia 5330 Mobile TV Edition.

Motorola

Motorola provides the MOTODEV Studio for Java ME tool for developing Java ME applications for its mobile phones. Currently, 39 models of mobile phones are built using the Java ME API, such as the V360, C650, E398, MOTORAZR V3 (CLDC 1.0) and T720 (CDMA), to name a few.

Samsung

Samsung deploys Java ME on almost each and every of its mobile phones today. All the mobile phones have preinstalled Java games and variant Java Web browsers. The GT-B7722 model comes with the Dolfin Java browser. The SGH-a867 device uses the Opera 9.5 Java browser. The SGH-U600 model comes with a WAP 2.0 Java browser. The GT-E255 model has the Openwave 6.2.2.3 Java browser.

Sony Ericsson

Sony Ericsson provides a Software Development Kit, or SDK, for the Java ME platform. With it, developers can create Mobile Device Independent Profile (MIDP)--compliant applications as well as Java 3D applications. The K850i Cyber-shot phone is a mobile phone with a digital camera. The C702 model has built-in GPS through Google Maps. The W760a model comes with built-in loud stereo speakers and enables changing songs by shaking the phone.
