You can quickly grind fresh or dried herbs using a shotglass and a pair of scissors. Grinding herbs prior to use breaks up cell walls to release essential oils that contain fragrance and flavor. Buying a dedicated herb grinder can be costly and is an unnecessary expense. Snipping the herbs with scissors allows you to control how coarse or fine the grind will be. Assemble a simple shotglass and scissors grinder to make quick work of any small vegetative matter.
Things You'll Need
- Small sharp-tipped scissors
- Shotglass with rounded interior
Use small sharp-tipped scissors to snip bits of fresh or dry vegetative matter into 1/2-inch pieces over a shotglass until it is a third full.
Lower the tips of the open scissors into the shotglass until they touch the bottom.
Slowly spin the shotglass as you open and close the scissors to snip the vegetative matter until the pieces are the desired size.
