Automobiles are the biggest single purchase (aside from a home) that most of us will ever make. Taking care of this investment requires regular oil changes, tune-ups and inspections. One aspect of car care that is usually overlooked until they are broken are the various safety lights. These little bulbs go a long way in keeping a driver safe and they should be checked regularly for proper functioning. Each automobile has a slightly different procedure for replacing tail lights. On the 1997 Chevrolet Camaro, there are two different types of bulb depending on the trim options.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the trunk of the 1997 Camaro and peel back the carpet in the corners near the hatch. On either side will be an access panel. There will be a couple plastic screws that can be turned by hand. Turn these counterclockwise so that the screw lines up with the holes and pull off the access panel cover.

    • 2

Remove the old tail light bulb. Pull the bulb out of the casing and out of the sockets. Take the bulb to the local auto parts store to get a replacement. Two possible replacement bulbs exist for a 1997 Chevrolet Camaro, either a wedge base or a bayonet base.

    • 3

Push the new bulb into place and replace the access panel cover. Lay the trunk carpet back down and close the trunk.
