How to Make Usenet Download Speeds Faster

"Usenet" is a type of online Internet discussion network. It is kind of like a massive message board system that allows users to share files in addition to type text based messages to each other. The speed of these downloads depend on your Internet connection and its available resources. If your connection is slow and your downloads are taking too long, there are a few things you can try to speed up how fast Usenet is downloading files.

1. Don't try to do anything else with Usenet while a file is downloading. The more tasks you try to force Usenet to do, the more system resources it is going to require from your computer. This will cause the program and all of the processes it is trying to complete to run slower. If you let Usenet download a file before you do anything else, the file may download much faster.

2. Don't try to do anything else on the Internet while a file is downloading in Usenet. Your Internet connection can only handle a certain amount of activity at one time--this is called your "bandwidth." If you're trying to download a file from Usenet, load a web page, check your email and download another file from your web browser all at the same time, all of those tasks will perform slow. If you download a file from Usenet without doing anything else online, all of your bandwidth will be dedicated to getting this processes completed.

3. Move closer to the source of your Internet connection (if you're using a wireless Internet connection). Even though wireless networks allow you to move wherever you'd like and still have Internet access, the signal gets stronger as you move closer to the router. If you want to speed up your Usenet downloads, physically move your computer closer to your network router to improve the overall speed of your Internet connection.
