Microsoft Word is a powerful program that allows the user to create business documents such as resumes, cover letters and more. One of the features of Word is the ability to add a photograph or other image to the background of a text document. It is very easy to stretch an image across the boundaries, or margins, or a Word document. Word provides the "Format Picture" command, which allows the user to change the size and layout of the inserted image.

Instructions

    • 1

Go to the Insert menu, point to "Picture" with the mouse and select "Clipart" or "From File," depending on the location of the picture. Choose an image and hit "OK."

    • 2

Click on the picture that needs to be stretched.

    • 3

Go to "Format" > "Picture." The Format Picture dialog will appear.

    • 4

Select the tab labeled "Layout," then choose "Advanced."

    • 5

Choose "Size." Adjust the size of the picture by entering the full height and width of the document (not including margins) in inches. This will stretch the picture across the boundaries.

Tips & Warnings

  • Size can also be adjusted by click-dragging. Click on the picture and drag one of the eight handles that appear outward. Hold down "Shift" to maintain the proportions of the image.
