How to Change a Password on iChat

IChat is the chat software that comes standard Apple computers using OS X. IChat allows users to not only chat through normal text boxes, but also using video. IChat does not use its own username/password setup, but rather piggybacks on other accounts for verification such as AOL Instant Messenger, MobileMe, or even Gmail.

Changing the Password in iChat

1. Depending on what account is used to logon to iChat, go to the corresponding provider's website and change or reset the password. See the following to determine where to go:

   AOL Instant Messenger: https://account.login.aol.com/opr/_cqr/opr/opr.psp?lang=en&locale=us
   MobileMe: http://www.me.com/account
   Gmail: http://www.gmail.com

2. After changing the password for the account used to logon to iChat, open iChat.

3. Click on the "iChat" menu and click on "Preferences..." Alternatively, click "command" + ","

4. Click on "Accounts", then select the appropriate screenname/username used to logon to iChat, then click on the "Account Information" tab.

5. Enter the changed/reset password, then close preferences box. The username with the new password should now be working.
