How to Tell If a Burberry Coat Is Real

A close inspection of the pattern and lining of a Burberry coat will indicate its authenticity.

The Burberry brand represents has been around for more than 100 years and remains a sought-after label by those who want impeccable and immediately identifiable styling. Many people are unaware that they've bought a fake Burberry coat, because they do not know what to look for when inspecting the product. Replicas exist for almost any brand-name item, but they can never fully replicate an item. To avoid buying a fake Burberry, the consumer needs to know what to look for in an authentic Burberry coat.

Instructions

1. Inspect the material. It should be sturdy and stain-resistant. The Burberry pattern is distinctive--a red and black plaid on a cream or tan background. Although Burberry has several variations of this pattern, they all look characteristically Burberry. The plaid pattern should be flawless.

2. Examine the tag. The stitching should be uniform. The back of the tag should say "Made in Italy" and include a serial number. The tag should appear sturdy and require scissors for removal.

3. Inspect the lining and the stitching. The materials should be top quality. Everything on the coat should appear firmly sewn. If the stitches and the lining are crooked or puckered, you have a fake.

4. Make sure the Burberry label is consistent. The name should be in all capital letters and in the same font wherever it appears on the coat.
