How to Hook a TiVO DVR to a Mac Via a USB thumbnail
Connect a Mac computer to Tivo for networked television recording.

TiVO digital video recorders capture television programming on a built-in hard drive for convenient viewing at a later time. When connected to a computer such as a Mac with a USB cable, TiVO can also be used to access Internet content, such as movies-on-demand from participating vendors that include Blockbuster and Netflix. The connection works with any free port on a Mac and takes only a few seconds, using a standard USB cable.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the TiVO component and locate the USB port on the back panel.

    • 2

Insert the plug on the end of a USB cable straight into the port on the TiVO. The plug inserts in one direction only; do not attempt to force it in the port.

    • 3

Connect the plug on the other end of the cable to any free USB port on the Mac.

    • 4

Turn on the equipment and press the "TiVO" button on the remote control.

    • 5

Use the up and down arrows to scroll to the TiVo network settings.

Tips & Warnings

  • Access movies on demand from numerous TiVo affiliated websites using the USB connection with a Mac connected to the Internet.

  • Turn off the computer while connecting the USB cable to the TiVO.

  • This setup will not work with TiVO Series 1 DVRs, which do not have a USB port.
