Flat screen TV with sound system

There are two ways you can install a flat screen TV and a sound system. The first way is easier because everything you need comes with your TV. You can simply slip your TV into the swivel mount and place it wherever you want. If you want to install your TV to the wall, you will have to purchase a wall mount. Your wall mount kit will come with all the supplies needed for wall installation. When you're installing a sound system as well, all you have to remember is to connect the sound system before you mount the TV.

Instructions

    • 1

Decide where you want to install your TV. There has to be electrical outlets nearby, and the wall has to be strong and large enough to hold a TV. A good thing to do is cut a piece of paper or cardboard to the size of your TV and tape it up around your house. Move it around and take a look at it to find a place you would like to hang your TV.

Locate the wall studs in the area you would like to hang your TV. You can't just mount your TV to drywall so you will have to make sure you're drilling your mount to the studs in the wall. The easiest way to find a stud is by using a stud finder. You can run this device across the surface of the wall and it will blink when you're over a stud. If you don't have a stud finder, you can still easily find the studs. Just knock on the wall and listen carefully. You will hear a hollow sound where the wall is hollow and a solid sound where the stud is. Mark the center of the studs with a pencil once you find them.

    • 3

Hold your wall mount up to the studs and mark the holes with a pencil. Make sure you use a level to ensure that the mount is even before you mark the holes. You may want a helping hand to hold the mount while you mark the holes and ensure that it is level.

    • 4

Score the pencil marks. This means to puncture a small hole in the wall on the pencil marks. This is just to get you going more easily once you start drilling. You can use a screw to score the wood.

    • 5

Line the holes on your wall mount with the marks on the wall and drill it into place. You may also want a helping hand to hold the mount while you drill.

    • 6

Attach the mount rails to the back of your TV. Your wall mount kit will come with two rails that screw into the back of your TV. Read the instructions of your specific wall mount to ensure proper installation.

    • 7

Connect your sound system cables to your TV. Also make sure that you connect any other cables (DVD player, gaming console, etc.) to your TV. A lot of these connections are on the back of the TV and will be extremely hard to connect once your TV is mounted.

Lift your TV up to the wall mount and slide the rails into place. This is usually easier to do with a partner helping you. The mount will have a built in screw that you can hand tighten to secure your TV.
