How to Tie Stretch Cord for a Bracelet

Stretch cord for jewelry making allows you to make simple beaded projects.

Stretch cord allows you to create bracelets that you can place on your wrist without the use of a clasp or toggle. Whereas many beaded bracelets require jewelry wire and crimp beads to attach these clasps, stretch cord gives you the freedom to create your bracelet using only a few simple knots. To wear your bracelet without fear of losing beads, you'll need to properly knot your stretch cord.

Instructions

1. Make a simple hitch knot on one end of your stretch cord by bringing your cord under itself and then back over, creating a loop. Bring the cord through the loop you've just created, keeping enough of your cord free for your beading project. Secure the knot by pulling it tight.

2. Create your bracelet by striging the beads onto the cord.

3. Make a second loop as you did the first at the end of your beading project after you've placed your final bead onto the cord.

4. Tighten the knot following your beads until it securely holds all the beads in place. Keep enough cord free to securely tie each end of the cord together, completing the project.

5. Bring both ends of the bracelet together and tie. Use the same knot you used previously to tie the beads onto the cord.

6. Trim off any excess jewelry cord once the knots are securely in place. You'll now be able to safely wear your bracelet without worrying about any beads popping off.
