Instructions for Diagonal Gift Wrapping
Diagonal wrapping means exactly how it sounds: presents are wrapped with wrapping paper that is tilted or an object that is set at a diagonal upon the paper. This style of wrapping is slightly more complicated than the usual method of wrapping presents, which is "seam line wrapping"---that's when a present is placed in the exact middle of a piece of wrapping paper and the sides of the paper are neatly and symmetrically folded and taped over the item. Diagonal wrapping is usually reserved for special or formal occasions, when you want to your present to appear distinctive. This process works best with a rectangular gift or box.

1
Cut a piece of wrapping paper that is twice as long as the item you plan on wrapping. Lay the piece of paper flat in front of you, vertically.
-
2
Place the item you plan on wrapping in the lower right corner of the piece of paper. Make sure you position it vertically on the paper, flush against the corner's edges.
-
-
3
Push the object an inch upwards from the bottom corner and tilt the top right corner of your gift to 3 o'clock. About 1/8-inch of the top right corner of your object should be jutting out past the wrapping paper.
-
4
Pull the lower right corner of wrapping paper over the left corner of the box, hiding it from view.
-
5
Fold the paper at the corner line of the left side of the box, flush against the box and pull the left side of paper up and across the gift.
-
6
Turn the box over onto the fold of paper that you have pulled across it. This action will wrap more surface area of the box more tightly.
-
7
Turn the box and pull the remaining piece of wrapping paper over the surface area of the box. This seam should meet the other seams and make a diagonal with one of them. If this flap does not make a perfect diagonal, don't worry---fold it under so that it matches one of the other seams perfectly. Tape it into place.
