How to Sync a RAZR to a Computer

Syncing a Motorola RAZR gives users the ability to transfer songs, pictures and videos to and from the phone, by way of computer. The task requires the installation of the phone's software driver and a physical connection (via a micro-USB syncing cable) between the phone and computer. While this task may seem rather complicated at first, synchronization is relatively easy.

Things You'll Need

  • RAZR micro-USB sync cable
  • Access the Motorola mobile support website to obtain the RAZR software driver.

  • Browse through the list of Motorola phone models and locate the specific model name for your Motorola RAZR.

  • Click the "Download" link (to the right of your RAZR's model) to access the phone model information and download page. A thumbnail image of the phone will appear on the following screen.

  • Verify that you have selected the correct Motorola RAZR model by examining the phone's thumbnail image and specifications listed. Scroll down the page and enter the security code in the data form directly above the "Download Now" action button.

  • Click "Download" to store and install the RAZR software driver to your computer's hard drive. Select the "Save" option in the RAZR file download box.

  • Connect the phone to the computer using the RAZR's micro-USB sync cable. The smaller end of the micro-USB sync cable should be inserted into the phone's A/C adapter port, and the receiving end of the cable should be connected to the computer's USB port.

  • Install the RAZR driver by extracting its setup application file from its stored location on your computer's hard drive.

  • Follow the Motorola installation prompts and select only the recommended Motorola installation settings to complete the process.

  • Restart the computer and power the phone off and back on again. Once both devices are rebooted, syncing configuration will be complete.

Tips & Warnings

  • The RAZR's driver is mandatory, as it ensures the phone's detection by the computer after the connection is established. The driver allows the computer to communicate with the phone for syncing purposes. Without it, syncing may not be possible.
  • The RAZR sync cable that comes with the phone is the only USB sync cable you'll be able to use. The end that connects to the phone's A/C adapter differs from most USB sync cables, making the connection impossible with a universal cable.
  • Only new generations of the Motorola RAZR, such as the V3 and V9M models, can be synced to a computer. Most of the earlier models of the phone do not come with this particular feature.
