A standard DVD player will always play the MPEG2 file format.

The video files on DVD video discs must be formatted in a certain way for the DVD player to be able to understand and play them. Your DVD player will always play the MPEG2 format no matter what--this is the standard format used when companies make commercial DVDs of all of your favorite hit movies. However, most DVD players can also play a variety of other MPEG and non-MPEG formats, as well. This information could be useful to have if you are thinking of burning your own DVD video discs.
