How to Connect a USB GPS Receiver to Windows XP
Some GPS devices can be connected to a PC with an operating system such as Windows XP to grant the computer GPS features, such as turn-by-turn directions or maps, as well as being able to determine latitude and longitude for a certain point. Having a GPS linked to a computer is useful for when you are going on a road trip or need to travel to multiple places for business purposes.

Insert the installation CD that came with the GPS receiver into the computer's CD-ROM drive. Follow the onscreen instructions to install the software needed to work your GPS receiver.

Connect the GPS device to the PC using the USB cable. The computer then connects to and recognizes the device.

Open the software you installed with the installation CD. This enables the GPS device and allows you to use it on your computer.

Tips & Warnings
Some GPS receivers may require you to be in an open area for a few minutes to perform the initial connection to the satellite network.
Make sure your GPS receiver is compatible with Windows XP.
