How to Change a Chevy Blazer Oil Sending Sensor

by Christian Killian

Changing the oil pressure sending unit on your Chevy Blazer can fix incorrect readings on the oil pressure gauge in the dash or shut off the annoying red light on the dash. The sending unit is located on the passengers side of the engine block right between the oil filter and the coil packs. It is easily replaced if it fails and a new sender is available at most auto parts stores or at the Chevy dealership.

Step 1

Locate the oil pressure sending unit on the passengers side of the motor. It has a black plastic body with a metal end that threads into the block. There is a wiring harness connector plugged into the end of the sender as well.

Step 2

Unplug the electrical connector from the sending unit by releasing the locking tab and pull the wiring connector off the sensor. Do not pull on the wires or you will damage the wiring harness.

Step 3

Remove the oil pressure sending unit from the block. Place a wrench on the metal hex near the base of the sensor and turn it counterclockwise to remove it.

Step 4

Install the new sensor and turn it clockwise to tighten it. Use a wrench to tighten it and torque it to 9 foot-pounds with a torque wrench.

Step 5

Reinstall the electrical connector on the sensor, pushing the connector on until it locks. Verify the repair was successful by starting the truck and reading the pressure on the oil pressure gauge.
