How to Use a Polishing Stone to Smooth Granite Edges
Whether you are moving into an older home that has surfaces which do not quite match what you have in mind, or you are adding a new granite installation to your home, there are certain areas where an installation will require the edges of granite to be smoothed over to add the perfect aesthetic depending on the individual. Smaller areas can be easily done with a simple polishing stone, allowing you to create the perfect edge for your particular project. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Apply pressure while dragging or pushing the polishing stone along the edge of the granite. The more pressure you apply, the more you will be able to affect the stone itself. Keep in mind that granite is one of the hardest natural stones on the market, and liberal pressure will be required.
-
2
Adjust the angle of the polishing stone as needed to get the angle you desire for the edge. A 45-degree angle is generally the easiest way to chamfer an edge onto a granite surface. If you want a more rounded edge, you should adjust the angle accordingly, alternating between a 45-degree and a 25-degree angle as you move the stone along the edge of the granite.

Repeat the process multiple times for a more defined angle. Given the nature of granite as a natural stone, you will likely need to make several passes on a given edge before it has the desired contour.
