How to Put on a Sports Kilt

Men most often wear sports kilts during Scottish games, such as the caber toss, which involves hoisting a long, tapered pole. The kilt design allows free movement of the legs and doesn't promote chafing in the groin area, as with sports shorts. Wearing a kilt often honors Scottish ancestors, though the wearing of a kilt isn't restricted to the descendants of Celts. Kilts also add a sense of flair and originality to a sport team's uniform.

Things You'll Need

• Sports kilt
• Sporran
• Kilt stockings
• Athletic shoes

Instructions

1. Unwrap the Velcro around the waist.

2. Step into the kilt, so that the flat, non-pleated portion squares with your torso.

3. Close the Velcro.

4. Fasten the chain of your sporran around your waist. The sporan is a leather pouch--useful for carrying keys, wallet and other items--that hangs over the crotch. It serves as a handy accessory for the sports kilt, but should be removed before playing sports.

5. Pull on your kilt stockings. These tall socks should end just below the knee.

6. Put on your athletic shoes.
