Instructions

  1. Preparation

    • 1

Make the pattern: To make the bottom piece, stand on a piece of old newspaper and trace the outline of each of your feet with a marker. Round off the uneven lines around the toes and along the outer edge of the foot. Cut the pattern along the line.

    • 2

To make the top piece of the pattern, mark an "X" on each side of the instep of the bottom pattern piece. Lay that on top of a piece of old newspaper and measure out 3/4 inch from each of the "X" marks. Draw 1/2 of an oval shape from the top of the toe to the "X" marks, following the bottom pattern piece from the toe and curving down to your marks. Draw a straight line across from the two "X" marks. Cut along the lines.

    • 3

Cut the fabric: Lay the pattern pieces out on the back side of your fabric and pin. Trace the pattern with sewer's chalk. This will be your sewing line. Cut the fabric 1/2 inch outside the marked chalk line.

    • 4

Cut two left and two right bottom pieces and four top pieces of regular fabric. Cut one of each bottom piece and two top pieces from the interfacing.

    • 5

Measure the full circumference of the bottom piece and cut two lengths of binding tape or two strips (5/8 inches long) of extra fabric. If using fabric, cut the strips on the diagonal.

    Assembly

    • 6

Sandwich the interfacing between the two pieces of fabric for each part: 1) left sole; 2) right sole; and 3) both tops. Place the interfacing on the back side of both pieces of fabric.

    • 7

Place the top piece over each bottom piece matching edges around the ball and toe. Pin in place and hand baste.

    • 8

With the right sides together, pin the binding all the way around the top of the slipper. Be sure to align the edges of the binding with the edges of the slipper.

      Machine stitch.

    • 9

Turn the binding to the bottom of each slipper. Turn under the edge of the binding, pin in place and top stitch.

    • 10

Decorate the top of each slipper with a heart shape cut out of the felt. Hand stitch it in place with a decorative button on top to hold it in place.

Tips & Warnings
