How to Relieve Jet Lag

Jet lag is the fatigued feeling you get while traveling. Caused by traveling quickly over time zones and excessive amounts of time on airplanes, jet lag can have you down and out of commission for days. It can be inconvenient if the travel is for business and downright unfair if the travel is for pleasure. There are some ways to relieve jet lag, both by being proactive and reactive.

Instructions

    • 1

Arrive at your destination two days before you need to be there, if possible.

    • 2

Adjust your bedtimes and waking times gradually for a week before your trip.

    • 3

Sleep on the plane, especially if you are taking a red-eye flight.

    • 4

Drink plenty of water throughout your travels and during your flight.

    • 5

Avoid coffee and alcohol; they cause dehydration.

    • 6

Stay awake if you arrive at your destination in the morning no matter how fatigued you feel.

    • 7

Sleep if you arrive at your destination at night, even if you feel wide awake.

    • 8

Walk around in the sunlight on your first day at your destination. Some studies indicate that sunlight can help relieve jet lag.

    • 9

Exercise regularly before, during and after your trip.
