It is very important to clean these appliances out thoroughly to avoid damaging other surfaces from specific cleaners. Empty the sprayer tank of all substances into the large bucket.

Pour 1 cup of ammonia into the sprayer tank.

Fill the sprayer tank with hot water. Shake it around a little bit.

Spray the solution out through the nozzle into the same bucket as the substances that were poured out.

Pour in a commercial tank cleaner according to label directions. Shake around.

Spray the contents into the large bucket.

Rinse thoroughly with water and spray out as well. Repeat two more times.

Allow to air dry.

Tips & Warnings
You can use chlorine bleach instead of ammonia, and for oil-based paints, stains and other oil-based substances, you can clean out the tank with fuel or kerosene. These will remove the oil deposits. Just be careful not to use any fire around kerosene or fuel as they may be flammable and could combust.
