Jeans are one of the standbys of clothing around the world, worn by all, serving a role as both fashionable and functional for work and play. However, there's one thing that can ruin how functional and fashionable those jeans are: holes. Luckily, a hole in that favorite pair of jeans of yours doesn't mean you have to throw them away. 1
Prepare your sewing machine by threading it. If you want to disguise the patch, make sure to use a color of thread that is the same color of the jeans.
-
2
Prepare your patching material. Denim is the best option, because it's so resilient and it blends in with the jeans, but you can also use iron-on fabric. Cut out enough so it completely covers the hole and then some.

3
Turn the jeans inside-out.
-
4
Attach the patch. Either iron on the fabric or pin the denim in place without sticking the pins all the way through the entire pant leg. You only want to go through one layer of fabric.
-
5
Sew around the edge of the patch. This will attach the patch to the jeans permanently.
-
6
Turn the jeans right side out.
-
7
Check your work. If you're satisfied already, you can stop, but you may need to also close the hole, too, if it's big enough.
-
8
Close the hole. Using a zigzag stitch, do horizontal and vertical lines to close the hole completely. Make sure that this stitching is attached to the patch to make it extra strong. Check your work on the inside to be sure you attached it to the patch.

Tips & Warnings
If you think your hole isn't too large, you can try to mend the jeans with just a needle and thread or sewing machine without a patch.
