How to Search by Address & Zip Codes

So you've only got the address and zip code of the business or person for which you're searching. Not a problem. In this modern, Internet age, it is becoming increasingly easy to search for a business or resident using just a few pieces of information. But there's a lot of useless data on the Internet, so you should learn how to search for that neighbor or business using the most effective means.

Instructions

  1. Find a Business Using Google Maps

    • 1

Log on to Google Maps (see "Resources").

    • 2

Type the address and zip code into the blank field and click "Search Maps." A map will appear showing your location.

    • 3

Scan the map for identifying landmarks. The business name may even be listed on the map. If you know the type of business, use the "Search Nearby" function and enter the business category.

    • 4

Look for any relevant signage or advertisements that may identify the business for which you are looking.

Find a Person Using White Pages

    • 5

Log on to the White Pages (see "Resources").

    • 6

Click on the "More Searches" tab at the top of the screen.

    • 7

Insert the address and zip code into the "Neighbor Search" fields.

    • 8

Click "Find." A list will now appear showing people who reside at or near the given address.

    • 9

Click on each name until you find the person you're looking for.

Finding a Business or Person Using a Search Engine

    • 10

Visit a popular search engine, such as Google, Bing or Yahoo.

    • 11

Insert the address and zip code into the search field.

    • 12

      Hit the "Enter" key.

    • 13

Search the results for a website that has mentioned your address. With so much information on the web, it's likely that the resident or business owner of your address has entered it on the web at some point.

    • 14

Place quotation marks around the address in a new search if the address brings up too many results. This will isolate the search to include results that mention your exact address.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you still can't find the name of the business, then do a little sleuthing using Google Maps Street View. To use Street View, drag the orange man in the upper-left side of the screen to the desired address. Now it's as if you're standing in front of the business you're searching for.
