How to Get Comcast to Reduce Your Bill

Receiving a Comcast cable bill for more than you were expecting can usually cause you to call up and cancel right away. Since Comcast Cable, headquartered in Pennsylvania, has almost 24 million cable customers, it is bound to have a few customers with incorrect bill statements, service plans that are never used or customers who simply want to get a lower monthly bill by any means possible. If you're looking to lower your Comcast bill for any of these reasons, it won't take an act of Congress to get a lower bill.

Review your billing statement for obvious printing errors, such as one dollar being printed as one hundred dollars. Look over your bill for days when your service was not operational due to outages, or when Comcast did not follow through with any requests for temporary disconnections. Performing this action will lower your bill substantially.

Check your monthly billing amount to determine if you are paying for services that you do not use. If you are paying for a horde of premium movie channels or cooking shows, but you never seem to watch television and you know the layout of the local P.F. Chang's restaurant more than your own kitchen, it is best to remove these channels in favor of basic, non-premium service. This will cut your bill almost in half, in most cases.

    • 3

Review your statement for new service install charges that may have been advertised as free. Advertisements are only as good as their bearer. Therefore, if you were offered a "no money down" cable or internet installation, yet you did not request the applying of the coupon advertisement to your bill at the install, you should request to apply this discount immediately.

Determine your required services and think about changing to a lower service plan or canceling altogether. Usually, when this situation presents itself, the customer service reps will offer you a lower plan with several of the same options as your previous plan just to keep you as a customer.

Make sure that you have all your requested discounts in order and call the Comcast customer service line at 1 (800) 266-2278. Speak with a customer service rep located in the billing department. To avoid being transferred around, immediately press 0 when the Comcast automated line attendant answers. Request a credit on your bill for all of the adjustments, discounts and credits.
