Things You'll Need
- Plastic sheeting
- Duct tape
- Broom
- Bucket
- Water
- 1 qt. chlorine bleach
- 1/3 cup powdered laundry soap
- Long-handled scrub brush
- Garden hose
- 3 oz. oxygen bleach

Prepare the driveway for cleaning. Remove all items from the driveway and drape plastic sheeting over surrounding landscaping or plants to protect them from the cleaning agents. Apply duct tape over any nearby electrical outlets.

Sweep off the driveway with a broom. Remove as much loose dirt and debris as possible. If you suspect mildew or mold, scrub those areas briskly with the dry broom to loosen it up.

Fill a bucket with 3 qt. warm water. Add 1 qt. chlorine bleach to the water and then one-third cup powdered laundry soap.

Dip a long-handled scrub brush into the cleaning solution. Scrub the driveway briskly with the scrub brush and cleaner.

Allow the cleaning solution to sit on the driveway for about 15 minutes. Rinse clean with plain water from the garden hose.

Use oxygen bleach as a less-toxic alternative to chlorine bleach for cleaning a driveway. Mix 3 oz. of oxygen bleach with 1 gallon of hot water. Scrub the driveway with the oxygen bleach mixture and a scrub brush. Rinse the driveway with water from the garden hose. Repeat this process until the driveway is free of the black stains.
