1
Cut a circle out of the felt. To create a perfect circle, MarthaStewart.com recommends fold the 60-by-60-inch piece of square felt into half. Take the string and tie a chalk to the end. Holding the other end of the string in the center of the felt, draw a half circle on the felt using the chalk. Keep the material folded in half and cut along the line. Do the same with the other piece of felt.

2
Cut out an inner circle for the base of the tree from the same piece of felt. Martha Stewart suggests using a small plate to as a guide to make sure your circle is perfectly round. Unfold the felt and place the small plate in the center of the circle. Use the chalk to trace the plate onto the felt. Cut a straight line from the outside of the tree skirt to the center circle you just traced. Then cut out the circle.
The cut line will act as the opening for you to wrap the skirt around the Christmas tree. Follow the same process with the second piece of felt.

Sew the two pieces together. You can use a sewing machine or sew them by hand. Sew along the outside edge, the edge of the inside circle, as well as both edges of the tree skirt opening.
