How to Make a Floral Wedding Kissing Ball

Floral kissing balls have become a modern alternative to a bouquet of flowers. The kissing balls make great decorations for weddings, and beautiful accessories to the bridesmaids and flower girls. Silk flowers are strategically placed on a floral foam ball, and ribbon helps to add a subtle accent. You can customize the kissing balls to match your wedding colors, and you will inevitably save money by making them yourself with a few simple items from your local craft store.

  • Wire cutters
  • Craft wire
  • 4 inch wide foam floral ball

Instructions

    • 1

Use wire cutters to cut a piece of craft wire approximately 15 inches in length. Wrap this wire around the floral foam ball.

    • 2

Attach the ends of the wire together. Twist the wires to leave the ends free, but ensure that the wire stays tight around the foam ball.

    • 3

Fold one yard of ribbon in half by bringing the two ends together. Pinch the ribbon six inches down from the folded end, and then separate the wire ends on the foam ball. Sit the pinched ribbon on top of the wire ends.

    • 4

Place the wire ends together. Twist them over the pinched ribbon to hold it in place, and then cut off any excess wire. The tail of the ribbon will hang below, while the looped folded end will stay in place on the foam ball.

    • 5

Trim down the stems of 35 to 40 silk flowers. The stems need to be two to three inches in length. Apply glue to the ends of the silk flowers, and insert them into the craft ball. Work your way from the top to the bottom of the ball to cover it completely in flowers.

    • 6

Place three silk flowers around the ribbon loop to hide the craft wire. Ensure that the tails stay separated and hang down on the sides of the floral foam ball.

Tips & Warnings

  • Apply different shades of the same color to create an intricate kissing ball.

  • Apply more ribbon or ivy to the kissing ball using floral pins to add accents.
