How to Control a Flash Movie Frame Size

Setting the stage size is one of the simplest but most important steps in the creation of a new Flash movie project. The stage size dimensions control the width and height of movies during the export process. Defining these dimensions at the beginning of a project is critical, because changing them at a later point can force you to reposition some or all of the objects in your project. Set the stage size by using Flash's Property Inspector tool.

Instructions

    • 1

Open your movie project. Select "File" in the menu near the top of your screen, then click "Open." Locate your project file and click it once. Click "Open" to bring up the project in Flash.

    • 2

Turn on the Property Inspector toolbar. This toolbar sits at the bottom of the screen in Flash, under the tab labeled "Properties," by default. If you have already turned on the Property Inspector toolbar, continue on to Step 3. Otherwise, click "Window" in the top menu bar and select "Properties." Choose the "Properties" option again in the sub-menu.

    • 3

Change the stage size. Click "Properties" in the toolbar at the bottom of your screen. Find the field labeled "Size," then click the button listing the current stage dimensions (e.g. 800 x 600 pixels). On the following screen, enter the preferred width and height of your movie under the "Dimensions" heading. Click "OK" to confirm the new settings. You have now changed the frame size of your Flash movie project.
