How to Use a Flat Panel LG TV with a DirecTV Remote


The DirecTV satellite television receiver is controlled with a universal remote control that you can program to work with other components in your home entertainment center. With the universal remote control, you can eliminate the need for separate remote controls for each component. If you have a flat panel LG television, you can program your DirecTV universal remote control to operate the TV controls.

Manual Code Entry

  • Refer to the DirecTV instruction manual for the remote codes associated with LG televisions. The manual has several different codes to program for LG televisions.

  • Turn on your LG flat panel television.

  • Press the "Mode" switch on the remote to the "TV" position.

  • Hold down the "Mute" and "Select" buttons simultaneously until the "TV" indicator light blinks twice. The remote control is now in programming mode.

  • Use the remote control keypad to input the first code on the list. The "TV" indicator light will blink twice if it is entered correctly.

  • Point the remote at the television and press the "PWR" button. If the television shuts off, the remote control is programmed and ready for use. If it doesn't turn off, repeat Steps 4-5 until you find a code that works.

Search for Codes

  • Turn on the television and press the "Mode" switch to "TV."

  • Press and hold the "Mute" and "Select" buttons on the remote control until the "TV" indicator light blinks twice.

  • Select the set of television codes stored to your remote control by pressing "9911" on the number keypad.

  • Push the "PWR" button and then repeatedly press the "Chan" up button until the television shuts off. If the "TV" indicator light blinks three times before the television shuts off, the remote control is not compatible with your television.

  • Save the code by pressing the "Select" button.
