How to Fold a Great Kilt
The Great Kilt, also known as the Feileadh Moor and Breacan Feile, is a garment made from 3 to 6 yards of fabric and usually of natural colors and patterns. While there is no official technique for putting on the Great Kilt, there is a special technique used to fold the fabric after wearing it, which will ultimately help care for and preserve the quality of the kilt, and hasten putting on the kilt the next time you want to wear it. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Lay a protective cover, such as a folding garment storage cover on top of a flat surface. The protective cover can also be as simple as a plastic sheet that is large enough to cover the folded kilt.
-
2
Lay the kilt fabric flat on the protective cover. Make sure that the protective cover is relatively centered under the kilt.
-
-
3
Bunch the center fabric of the kilt into horizontal pleats by pinching a small bit of fabric into bunches in the center of the kilt. Do this as if you were going to put the kilt on. The purpose of pleating the kilt before you store it is so that when you want to put the kilt on again you won't have to pleat the kilt at that time.
-
4
Fold the upper and lower aprons (vertical ends) over the pleated area. Make sure that you do not fold wrinkles into the aprons. If you see any wrinkles, simply smooth them away with your hand.
-
5
Fold the plaid end of the kilt into the hemmed end. If you can't tell them apart, simply fold in the horizontal ends of the kilt to the center.
-
6
Fold the protective cover over the folded kilt and fasten the protective cover with ties. If you have a specialty cover for protecting kilts, you should be able to further roll your kilt into a cylinder and fasten it again, but this is not necessary for storage.
