How to Install Norton Internet Security in Safe Mode

Norton Internet Security is an antivirus program that enables you to protect your computer from malicious files such as viruses, Trojans, spyware and worms. It monitors your computer in real time to prevent the possibility of downloading malicious programs that can potentially damage your computer. You can install Norton Internet Security in Safe Mode to prevent interferences from any other programs. Because Safe Mode only allows a limited number of devices to run, it is ideal for installing this program.

Instructions

1. Go to your Norton order page if you purchased a Norton Internet Security download. Double-click the program and click "Save." Select your desktop and click "Save" to download the installation file on your desktop.

2. Restart your computer and press "F8" repeatedly before the Windows logo appears. This launches the "Advanced Options Menu" (Windows XP) or "Advanced Boot Options" (Windows 7 and Vista).

3. Scroll down and select "Safe Mode." Press "Enter" to launch Windows Safe Mode.

4. Uninstall a previous version of Norton Internet Security if you have one on your computer. To do so, click the Windows "Start" menu and select the "Control Panel." Double-click "Add or Remove Programs" (Windows XP) to launch the programs list. For Windows 7 and Vista users, launch the programs list by clicking "Programs" and selecting "Programs and Features."

5. Scroll through the list and select the Norton Internet Security version that you want to uninstall. Click "Remove/Uninstall" to remove it from your computer. If prompted, restart your computer and launch Windows Safe Mode again.

6. Insert your Norton Internet Security CD into the CD/DVD-ROM drive and wait for the installation wizard to launch automatically. If the installation wizard does not launch, click "My Computer" on the desktop or on the Start menu to launch Windows Explorer. Right-click the drive containing the CD and click "Autoplay" to launch the installation wizard.

7. Double-click the Norton Internet Security installation file if you downloaded it from the Internet. Click "Run" to launch the installation wizard. Follow the guided prompts to install Norton Internet Security. When prompted, restart your computer normally to complete the installation process.
