How to Get Rid of U3 on a Memory Stick

U3 is software designed to run on a compatible flash drive or memory stick, such as those from SanDisk. If you no longer want U3, you can remove it to free up space on the flash drive or memory stick. You can get rid of U3 by using the U3 Launchpad Removal Tool by SanDisk.

Instructions

  1. Windows

      Download the U3 Launchpad Removal Tool. (There is a link in the Resources section.) Save the file to the desktop for easy access. Double-click the file to run the program.

      Insert the U3 memory stick flash drive into a USB port.

      Click the "Next" button to verify that you want to remove the U3 software.

    Mac

      Download the U3 Cruzer Utilities package for Mac. (There is a link in the Resources section.) Double-click the file to install the software. Restart the computer after installation.

      Go into your hard drive and double-click the "Applications" folder. Double-click the "Utilities" folder to locate the Launchpad Removal Utility for MAC.

      Double-click the file and click the "Next" button when prompted. Click "No" for the option to restore your data.

      Click "Format."

      Click "Done" to close the utility.

Tips & Warnings

  • Uninstalling the U3 software will remove the partition that was used for the Launchpad utility and convert it to one storage volume.

  • If you do not copy the data off the memory stick before it is formatted, you will lose everything.
