How to Add Twitter Updates to Your Website

The interactions between Twitter users range from friendly conversation to product marketing. Whether you want to meet more people or gain a larger readership for a business-related account, you can attract more followers by integrating Twitter into your website. When you insert a Twitter profile widget into an area of your website, it shows your most recent "tweets" updated in real time. The widget links back to your profile page, making it simple for potential followers to navigate to your Twitter page.

Instructions

  1. Set Up Widget

      Navigate your Web browser to twitter.com and log in with your user name and password. If you can't remember your user name, you may also log in with the email address you used at registration.

      Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the "Goodies" link.

      Select "Widgets."

      Click on the "My Website" link on the left-hand navigation bar.

      Select "Profile Widget." This widget option will show your own Tweets.

      Enter your user name in the appropriate box if it is not already there.

    Customize Widget

      Set the preferences for your widget by clicking on the "Preferences" link on the left-hand navigation bar. You may choose to have a scroll bar on your widget, select the number of Tweets it shows, and decide if you want to show time stamps and avatars with the status updates. You will also need to decide if the widget will load all of your tweets as you type them, or update in timed intervals.

      Change the colors of your widget by clicking on the "Appearance" link. The default color scheme is black, gray and green. Choose colors that coordinate with your website for a seamless look. Pick colors for the background, text and links.

      Adjust the size of your widget by clicking "Dimensions." Check the width of the area is in your website where you plan to put the widget and then make the widget as wide or narrow as necessary to fill the space. You may also set the height and make the widget as tall or short as you'd like.

      Preview your widget by clicking on the "Test settings" button at the bottom of the page. Make your final adjustments.

      Click "Finish & Grab Code." Copy and the code shown on the next page and insert it directly into your website where you want the widget to appear.

Tips & Warnings

  • Twitter widgets are not available for private accounts.
