How to Fix XML Open Office Associations

Open Office can handle many file types, including XML. However, you may find that when you double-click on an XML file, it does not open in Open Office, but rather opens in a browser or another application. Rather than opening the document through the file menu in Open Office, you can change the default program association for XML files, which will make the process of opening such files faster and more efficient.

Instructions

  1. Windows Computers

    • 1

Right-click on one of your XML files and hover your cursor over "Open with."

    • 2

Select "Choose Program..." in the submenu that appears.

    • 3

Select "Open Office" in the programs list that appears. If Open Office does not appear in the list, click on the "Browse" button and select "My Computer." Select the "C:" drive and navigate to the "Program Files" folder. Inside, double-click on the "Open Office" folder and double-click on the Open Office executable file (marked with "exe").

    • 4

Click on the check box next to "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file." Click "OK."

    Mac OS X
