How to Make "Our Father" Prayer Beads
"Our Father" ("Pater Noster" in Latin) beads, also called paternoster beads, are prayer beads strung together. Catholics and other Christian denominations use these beads to recite the "Our Father" (the "Lord's Prayer"). Make "Our Father" beads using any color of beads and string that suit your taste. When you pray the "Our Father" on your handmade beads, you will join an ancient ritual of prayer. According to the website Paternoster-Row, "Our Father" beads are composed of 50 prayer beads divided in quantities of 10. Some "Our Father" beads include five larger beads that set apart each set of 10 smaller beads.

1
Tie the tassel to one end of the beading string. Tie a knot that you can disguise in the top of the tassel. For accent, select a tassel color that contrasts with the beading string. For example, if you use a green beading string or rope, choose a gold tassel. Ultimately, it is a matter of personal taste.

2
Draw one of the larger beads through the string to rest at the top of the tassel. Tie a knot above the bead for stability and for aesthetic value. The knotted string will contrast with the bead.

3
Thread 10 of the smaller beads. If you want to tie a knot between each bead, do so. You do not have to do this. After the 10th bead, make a knot. Add another large bead and tie a knot above it. Continue the process until you have strung all of the beads.
-
4
Allow your paternoster beads to hang straight on the string or connect the last bead to the first by tying the string to the beginning of the chain. If you make a loop, allow enough string to hang from the knot that you tied above the tassel. Tie the end of the string to that remaining string.
