Instructions

  1. Using Fake Grass

    • 1

Decide where you would like to use fake grass and measure the area. You can use fake grass just about anywhere, including in your frontyard, backyard, patio area, garden, playground or even rooftop. Fake grass can be used as a play area, lounging area or your own at-home putting green.

    • 2

Remove old sod with the help of a sod cutter. You can rent a sod cutter by the day from most heavy equipment rental stores.

    • 3

Shovel crushed rock onto the area and make it level. The crushed rock will help absorb moisture that seeps through the grass covering allowing for adequate drainage.

    • 4

Layout the fake grass you have purchased and use your utility knife to cut the grass to fit the area. It is easier to cut the back side of the grass than cut through the top part. Take your time cutting, so you do not make a mistake. Remember, measure twice and cut once.

    • 5

Hammer nails about 8 inches apart along the edges of the grass. As you hammer the nails, cover the nail heads with grass so they cannot be seen.

    • 6

Adjust any seams by pulling the grass so that it masks the appearance of seams. Nail the edges of the seam down on both sides of grass.

    • 7

Take a large bristle brush and brush the grass like you are sweeping a floor. This will make the blades of grass stand up. Shovel silica sand over the grassy area. The sand is also going to help absorb moisture and odor. Brush the sand into the grass evenly.
