How to Color with Stencils

A stencil is a particular pattern or shape cut out of a material, usually plastic. The stencil helps keep the shape the same. Use stencils to make a uniformed, neat design. Stencils work well with most coloring mediums: crayons, pencils, markers and paint. Stencils allows users to customize an item. For example, if the stencil is a kite, they can make the kite any color they want, but keep the same shape. Use stencils on fabric, paper or other hard surfaces.

Instructions

    • 1

Position the stencil where you want it on the surface.

    • 2

Put small pieces of masking tape around the edges of the stencil to keep it from moving.

    • 3

Color in the stencil. Coloring too fast can cause the stencil to move or the coloring medium to go underneath the stencil. Trace the boarder of the shape to outline the shape.

    • 4

Remove the tape and lift up the stencil. Throw the tape away, if done.
