How to Improve My IE Download Speed

Most people download files directly through their browser and for most people that browser is Internet Explorer. There are several easy things you can do to improve your Explorer download speed. In addition to downloading files directly from the Internet, everything you see on your browser is in a sense downloaded. Improving download speeds will not only make downloading files faster but will also help increase browsing speed as well.

Instructions

1. Delete temporary files. In Internet explorer select the "Tools" menu and choose "Internet Options." Under the "General" tab, click "Delete" in the "Browsing history" section. In the next menu select the check box next to "Temporary Internet Files" and then click "Delete."

2. Make more space available on your hard drive. Right click on your computer's hard drive and choose "Properties." Look at how much free space is listed. If you have anything less than a gigabyte, start looking for programs or files that you don't need and delete or remove them.

3. Remove adware. Find a good adware/spyware removal program such as Malware Bytes. Download or buy this type of program and run it frequently to find and remove adware and spyware.

4. Close other programs that are running when downloading with Internet Explorer.

5. Add more RAM and consider upgrading the processor. Having faster hardware helps your computer process downloads faster.

6. Consider getting a faster connection. If you have done everything else and you are still unsatisfied with your speed, your only recourse is to get a faster broadband connection. Cable and DSL connections now come as fast as 7 to 10 Mbps (megabytes per second).
