How to Reset Your Insinkerator Garbage Disposal
Your Insinkerator garbage disposal is equipped with a feature that shuts the device off if utensils or other objects are jammed within it. This automatic shut off is a safety feature that protects the blades and the disposal's other internal parts. If you don't hear the blades turning or you hear a humming sound coming from the disposal, the automatic shut-off feature is engaged. Turn off the disposal, if it is on. Remove any pots, pans, plates, dish towels and other objects from the sink containing the disposal.

Shine a flashlight inside of the disposal and look for any trapped utensils or other objects that may be jamming it.

Use a long screwdriver to dig out the object that is jamming the disposal. Do not put your hands inside of the disposal.

Open the kitchen cabinet below the sink.

Shine your flashlight under the bottom of the disposal and locate its red reset button.

Press the red reset button.

Listen for a click sound. The disposal is now reset.

Turn on the sink's cold water faucet and leave it running.

Turn on the disposal to test it. You should hear the disposal's blades turning. If you hear a humming sound, turn off the disposal and check for other objects trapped in the device. If you don't find any jammed objects in the disposal, consult with a plumber.

Always run your sink's faucet while using your disposal. The water helps break up congealed fats and greases in order that they are washed away.
