How to Operate a Pez Candy Dispenser

Pez Candy Dispensers are popular with adult collectors as well as sweet-loving kids. This distinctive container of rectangular candy wafers has become something of a pop culture phenomenon since its invention in 1927. While Pez wafers would never be categorized as a gourmet treat, the 5/8 inch blocks of pressed candy have been manufactured in flavors ranging from chocolate to sour watermelon. Through the years, the dispensers have featured representations of popular cartoon characters, super heroes and other pop culture figures. Operating these dispensers is very easy. The dispensers themselves serve up individual pieces of candy through a spring loaded mechanism that advances the candies upward. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

  1. Loading the Candy

    • 1

Unwrap the package of Pez candy and set the wafers aside.

    • 2

Lay the Pez Dispenser down horizontally on a flat surface with the head of the dispenser on the left and the feet of the dispenser on the right. The front of the head should be facing upward.

    • 3

Pull the head to the left. The stem of the dispenser will slide open like a tiny drawer, exposing the inner sleeve.

    • 4

Fill the inner sleeve with candy by placing a stack of Pez wafers inside of the inner sleeve opening, making sure that the shorter sides of the wafers are facing down. The sleeve of a standard size Pez Dispenser can hold 12 wafers.

    • 5

Push the head to the right to cause the inner sleeve to retract back into the dispenser stem.

    Retrieving the candy

    • 6

Pick up the dispenser and hold it upright with the front of the head facing you.

    • 7

Flip the dispenser head backwards. This will cause a plastic finger mechanism to push the top Pez wafer forward.

    • 8

Remove the top piece of candy. The remaining wafers are spring loaded within the stem and will move upward.

    • 9

Repeat this process for each successive piece of candy.

Tips & Warnings

  • Collecting Pez Candy Dispensers can be an interesting and enjoyable hobby. When collecting Pez Dispensers, keep in mind that a dispenser without feet on the bottom indicates a container that was made before 1987 and will therefore, have a higher value.

  • Always keep a Pez Dispenser that is loaded with candy away from moisture. The containers are not waterproof.
