How to Make Chinese Wooden Puzzles
Chinese wooden puzzles are fun and relatively easy to make. Once completed, a puzzle box will stump you and your friends so much that you'll wonder if you put it together right. The time it takes to make the puzzle will only be matched by the time it will take to have fun putting it together. So for craft and puzzling fun, try making this Chinese wooden puzzle box by yourself or with a friend.

Things You'll Need
- Heavy book or vice
- Square dowel
- Saw
- Wood glue
- Paint or finish (optional)
- Sander

Place the square dowel flat across a tool table. Hold the dowel steady and cut a cubed tip off the top of the dowel with the saw. Set that cube aside.

Using the procedure described in Step 1, cut a second cube from the dowel. Set that cube aside as well. Repeat this until you have 27 cubes.

Make sure the cubes are smooth and even by sanding them.

Take two cubes and glue their sides together with wood glue. Immediately place them in a tight vice or under a heavy book to dry.

Continue to glue the pieces together until you have five masses of cubes. Follow this diagram to make the cube masses in the correct shapes:

Wait for the pieces to dry. Paint or wood stain the five pieces as desired. Set them aside again and wait for them to dry.

Begin the puzzling fun. Put the pieces together in the correct manner to create a perfect cube mass.
