A "directory" is another name for a computer folder. Directories in the Windows operating system can house both computer files as well as other folders, which would then be called "sub-directories." If you want to compare two directories in Windows, including when they were created, what their total file size is, how many files are contained within and more information, all you need to do is open their respective "Properties" windows.

Instructions

    • 1

Navigate to the first directory you wish to examine on your Windows computer.

    • 2

Right-click on the folder icon for the directory. Click "Properties" to see a listing of information about that directory. Drag this window off to the side of your monitor, but do not close it.

    • 3

Navigate to the second directory you wish to examine on your Windows computer.

    • 4

Right-click on the folder icon for the directory. Click "Properties" to see a listing of information about that directory. Drag this window next to the "Properties" window from the first directory. Now that they are side by side, you can easily compare the statistics of the two directories. You can see how many files are in each directory, how many folders are in each directory, when they were created, when they were last accessed and a host of other relevant tidbits.
