Installing a Basketball Hoop
-
1
Dig a hole about 2 feet by 2 feet wide and about 3 feet deep. Fill the bottom of the hole with about 6 inches of gravel. This will give the water somewhere to drain and help prevent the basketball hoop from moving in winter due to freezing.
-
2
Insert the basketball pole into the hole, making sure it is in the center of the hole. Fill the hole with the cement until it reaches the top. Make sure the pole is level and let the cement set as directed on the bag, which could take anywhere from a few hours to overnight.

3
Install the backboard bracket as instructed. Typically the backboard bracket will be attached with U-bolts and nuts wrapping around the basketball pole. This is so the backboard and rim can be adjusted later to maintain the 10-foot height.
-
4
Attach the backboard to the backboard bracket. The bracket should have four screw holes that coincide with the screw holes on the backboard. Depending on the type of backboard and bracket system you purchased, these could be on the four corners of the painted box on the backboard or will be in the four corners of the backboard itself.
-
5
Attach the rim to the backboard using the bolts provided. Adjust the tension on the rim if you have purchased a break away rim to protect the backboard from breaking if you will be dunking on the hoop.
-
6
Adjust the entire backboard and rim so that the front end of the rim is exactly 10 feet off the ground by loosening the u-bolts and sliding the whole apparatus up or down. Also check to make sure the rim and the backboard are level.

Tips & Warnings
When installing a professional grade basketball system, it is best to have someone help you as the thick glass backboard can be quite heavy.
