How to Make an Easy Paper Rose

Save

A rose is a symbol of love and beauty. The intricately layered petal structure of the blooms makes each flower a sweet work of art. While a real rose has this complex structure, crafting a small one out of paper is quite simple. You can mimic rose petal layers by twisting and folding a strip of paper.

Things You'll Need

  • Construction paper (8.5-by-11 inches)
  • Ruler
  • Scissors
  • Tape
  • Cut a 1-inch wide strip of paper from the long side of the construction paper.

  • Orient the strip of paper horizontally.

  • Roll the right side very tightly to the left to a one-eighth inch diameter to create the rose center.

  • Hold the rose center with your right hand and the paper tail in your left, holding near the rose center.

  • Fold the left side behind itself at a 45-degree angle so the tail hangs straight down behind a 45-45-90 triangle.

  • Hold the bottom of the rose center and roll it tightly to the left. The paper will begin to wrap around the center. When you reach the part when there is a vertical fold and the paper comes to a point at the top, fold the left tail behind itself again, repeat Step five.

  • Continue rolling and folding behind (Steps five and six) until you reach the end of the paper.

  • Attach the end of the paper by taping to the underside of the rose.

Tips & Warnings

  • Try several colors of construction paper for a variety of blooms.
  • If the rose is not rolled tightly enough to hold its shape, apply small amounts of glue to the underside of the rose.
