How to Keep an Indoor Table Water Fountain From Getting Slimy
Indoor table fountains develop slime from bacteria and algae. It's not a health hazard, but it looks ugly and can shorten the life of your fountain. Your fountain's pump won't process slimy water as efficiently as clear, clean water. If you dump the water out and clean the table top fountain every day, you will prevent the slime build up, but that's not a practical approach. Fortunately, you can prevent slime in your fountain through other methods that don't require daily effort. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1
Turn off and unplug the indoor table fountain (if it is battery powered, simply turn it off).
-
2
Dump out the water. Pour a few drops of dish soap on a toothbrush and scrub all slimy surfaces with the brush to loosen grime.
-
-
3
Wet a sponge in hot water. Scrub the surfaces with the sponge and then wipe them with a cloth dampened in warm water (you should remove all traces of the soap or the water will make bubbles when you use the fountain again).
-
4
Refill the fountain with distilled water. Alldecorativefountains.com recommends using distilled water or boiled water (to remove minerals) in tabletop fountains. This prevents hard water deposits.
-
5
Add indoor fountain treatment drops (or tablets) to the water. These drops prevent mineral build-up and algae. Completely change the water in your fountain, even if you use these drops, every month.
