Things You'll Need
- Paper towels
- Stain and odor remover
- Black-light bulb
- Carpet shampoo cleaner
- Pet odor neutralizing powder
- Vacuum cleaner

Blot new stains with paper towels. Apply a slight amount of pressure by stepping on the towels. Continue to replace the stained towels with new ones until the liquid completely absorbs.

Apply a stain and odor-removing cleaner or carpet shampoo to the area. Rinse the area with warm water.

Clean the carpet with a rug shampooer. Fill the cleaner with cold water, but do not use any chemicals or cleaners. Run the cleaner over all areas of your carpet.

Sprinkle a pet odor neutralizing powder after your carpet dries. These neutralizers will digest odor-causing bacteria. Allow the powder to set for the length of time suggested by the product.

Vacuum the areas where you applied the powder. Repeat the treatment if you still smell the odor.

If your cat still eliminates on your carpet, you may need to figure out why your cat is misbehaving. A simple correction in behavior will make your house smell better.
Try cleaning the litter box out more often, or adding odor eliminating powder to the litter box to remove the smell. Cats will not use the litter box if it smells bad or if the box is too full.
